Matt Carle came into Philly as a defenseman with a high potential and was later greeted with one helluva defensive pairing with Chris Pronger. Carle's play has been stellar since coming to Philly from Tampa Bay. Keep in mind he is a quiet, defensive defenseman.
Carle has logged 8 goals in his three season with Philadelphia and tallied 13 assists in last year's playoff run. His goals have been clutch, two seasons ago he sent the game to overtime in a game that later ended in a shootout win to secure the Flyers a playoff spot.
After this season the Flyers will have a big question, to re-sign Matt Carle or not. They have a lot of defensive prospects but it is unknown if they will be able to match what Carle has done for this team. One thing to be said, Carle had one goal this season and that looms largely when looking back.
