Flyers take Sean Couturier with the 8th Overall Pick

Once thought to be the number one pick in the draft, Sean Couturier fell to the 8th overall pick in the NHL draft and the Flyer bit. Couturier logged two consecutive 96 points seasons in the QMJHLfor Drummondville.

When asked if he thought the center man would be available at their pick Homer said: “No, we didn’t,” Holmgren said. “But it’s certainly something we thought about. We’re excited. We’re happy we were able to draft Sean.”

Couturier will look to fill the role left by Carter in the years to come. He is a two-way center with great offensive potential and speed.

Reports

MyNHLDraft.com's Ryan Jaret
One of top player makers in this years draft, Speed and stick skills make him a threat to score whenever hes on the ice. Solid 2-way player who shows commitment to defensive end.

NHL Central Scouting's Chris Bordeleau
“At his size, he'll be hard to pass up in the draft. He possesses a very good work ethic and he's out there for every important faceoff. He's very responsible in the defensive aspect of the game -- a rare quality for such a young player in junior hockey."

NHL Central Scouting's Chris Edwards
“Sean has excellent puckhandling and playmaking ability; he sees the ice and reads the play very well . . . He's extremely smart and gets himself into good scoring position. He plays a solid two-way game and is very responsible defensively.”
