Holmgren rings the Bell, it's Fight for First

With just two games remaining in the Flyers season the team finds themselves starring at a second place finish to the regular season. Washington has capitalized on the Flyers bad play of late and has just about seized back-to-back regular season conference titles. A win against the Panthers on Saturday and the Capitals will find themselves looking at home ice advantage through out the first three rounds of the playoffs.

The Flyers will have to win tonight against Buffalo and tomorrow versus the New York
Islanders and pray for a win by the Florida Panthers to regain control of the Eastern Conference.

In numeral term the Flyers sit at 103 points with 80 games played, the Capitals have 107 points with 81 games played. Thus the Flyers lay 4 points behind the Caps with one game at hand.

I could talk about this slump until my head turns blue but the team's problem is just that, their problem. GM Paul Holmgren held a closed door meeting with the team to 'talk' with them about their recent struggles. Flyers center Danny Briere simply said "he's intimidating."

Now we'll see if the most threatening of the members of the organization can put some life into this dead team. In addition, Homer called up Michael Leighton. Leighton's role has not been announced yet, but Laviolette has said Bob will get the start tonight as well as game 1 of the first round of the playoffs next weekend.

The Flyers will most likely be matched up against one of Montreal, New york Rangers, or Carolina in the first round. There, however, is still an outside shot that they could lose the division to Pittsburgh.

This could get sloppy, lets hope the Flyers don't let it be.
