2007 Draft: The Year of the Mullet
If 2004 is being regarded as the best draft in NHL history, then 2007 must be addressed as the least stylish draft. The mullet found a home in the 1st round as Chicago's Patrick Kane and Philadelphia's James van Riemsdyk sported the uber fashionable hairstyle.
Although the mullet's known as being business in the front, party in the back this draft was the opposite. 3 of the top 10 picks in the draft went on to give the mullet a home. Patrick Kane, JvR, and Jakub Voracek all had the same thought. While picks 20 and 22, Angelo Esposito(Photo) and Max Pacioretty(Photo), went with a more refined version of the ageless gem.
The Washington Capitals held the 5th overall pick and had no hesitation in grabbing Karl Alzner. The dark horse bypassed the hairstyle and went straight to what the people want. The fans are tired of the mullet, Karl knew that, so he took on the racoon route. The cowboy top makes it fun for all fans.
There you have it 2007, the draft that fashion left behind.
